About Me

My name is Normand Balthazard and before everything I want to thank you for visiting my website.

I am a French Canadian who grew up in the suburb of Montreal Quebec. My earlier life was in finance and Venture capital in Canada. I now live in Mont-Tremblant enjoying the life surrounded by mountains where I cycle, ski, hike and search for new landscape opportunities that I present in an artistic way.

Photography has been a passion since I was 16 at which time, I spent endless hours in my darkroom applying the rules learned from Times and Ansel Adams books. Over the years I have felt an interest in wildlife for many years while traveling from Africa, Alaska, Galapagos and Antarctica to name a few locations. Eventually I turned my attention toward the in-depth development of a specific subject which led me to spend many weeks in Ethiopia to photography very remote tribes from the OMO Valley. The artistic possibilities arousing from their body paintings and decorations were a continuous inspiration. I self-published a book Tribes of Ethiopia and successfully exhibit my work in galleries. Today’s work is more focused on developing an artistic approach towards landscape and mountains photography. Doing so I enjoy hiking for hours in the mountains in search for the inspiration in my backyard, Mont-Tremblant, as much as in Patagonia, Scotland, Iceland or the Dolomites. I have so many locations on my list.

Most of my work is in limited edition photographs captured on medium format camera.

I hope my work resonate with you.
